About Alisha
I am a 3rd year BA student. In my spare time I volunteer at a primary school outreach, where we teach Grade 3 students how to speak, read and write English. I major in English Literature, at third year level.

My initial teaching method is to engage with the student, to find their opinions, understanding or struggles with a subject to find out how to help them, doing this allows the student to full included.
Secondly, I believe people grasp things differently, thus I have to apply different approaches on each person. Some people grasp better with visuals, for example, watching cartoons that speak English to see the action while learning the words. Other people take a while to understand a subject, that is why I am patient with them, give them a daily or weekly task to do, for example giving a person 10 words to learn per week or two and using those words in sentences. Lastly, I believe in having a healthy educational competition, where students will feel motivated to do a task, with a certain prize at the end. Throughout all these methods, communicating in English constantly is important to familiarise the language, and giving students material to read daily, be it magazines, novels or pamphlets, and they should always learn a new word every day or week, depending on how fast the student grasps.
