About Ryan

I am a graduate of UC Berkeley's Comparative Literature department, offer of a 50 page honors thesis, and poet/transcriber. I am deeply passionate about words, and find joy in sharing my excitement and enthusiasm with others. I believe that language arts require a degree of structure and practice in order to maximize linguistic "flow" and ease. The same applies to test preparation (in addition to languages, I am also equipped to tutor up to high school-level math and history). On a more fundamental level, I believe that language learning (I teach English to Spanish and Spanish to English) asks for consistency, openness and a willingness to learn, all of which I strive to cultivate in my sessions.

About the lesson

Hello! If you are seeking support learning English or Spanish, preparing for a related exam, want to hone essay-writing skills, or are seeking a structured space in which to write creatively, I am happy to be of help. I have over two years of experience tutoring, through programs in my college-town in the Bay Area and in college proper. As an undergraduate, I studied critical theory and English and Spanish literatures, and graduated with honors; I plan to pursue my PhD eventually, but am currently working to practice & hone my own writing in wonderful New York. Over the years, I've gained exposure to various pedagogical writing and language acquisition model, and have come to truly love working with others in the language arts in many capacities.
