About Jodi

I do not take you investing time, money, and your trust into my tutoring/coaching services lightly. In fact, I consider my full time job as a teacher a privilege. I am lucky that I get to teach a craft that I'm passionate about and use my 20 years of experience as a foundation for my teaching and your growth.

My approach to private coaching/tutoring is to build a base of trust, first. I regularly tell my students, "we have to create a safe environment for failure, no one wants to fail in front of someone they don't feel safe with." With anything in life, when you want to grow and get better at something, you are going to fail a lot. Getting better at dance is no different- as we get to know each other, we will build a relationship where failing is welcomed and even encouraged because it means that you are trying and on your way to success.

As dancers, we are also athletes. I am big on cross training and know that with a lot of dance skills, you need to have both the strength and flexibility to succeed. We will be adding strength and conditioning to our sessions to make sure the goals you set are achievable. As a certified Pilates instructor, I have the skill set needed to help integrate strength training into dance.

Lastly, of course, as a teacher I will walk us through each session with an objective and lesson plan in mind. For example: "Today we will work on strengthening and stretching our inner thigh muscles, so that I can increase the height of my a la seconde leaps (also known as a Russian leap).

About the lesson

Hi there! My name is Jodi Saenz, you can call me Jodi or Mrs. Saenz :) I have been dancing my whole life and loved it so much that I got a degree in it and now work as a dance teacher at a middle school here in Texas. Growing up, I craved dance. I was the kid who was never at school events cause I was always at dance class or performing. I grew up in a modest household, so private lessons were not possible for me, but I remember looking up dance videos and practicing in my garage when I didn’t have dance because I wanted to improve. While the value of practicing on your own is immense, I know I would have benefitted so much from even just half an hour to an hour a week of a private lesson- where an experienced and caring teacher with high expectations could focus on my growth and well-being as a dancer.
