About Maritha
My name is Maritha and I am a teacher and native Afrikaans speaker. I currently teach Afrikaans Huistaal in the classroom, and I have also taught English for almost two years. Before that, I taught Life Sciences to Grades 10 to 12 and Natural Sciences to Grades 4 to 9. I hold a BHSc degree in Occupational Health and Hygiene, so I have a strong background in the life and natural sciences.
I became a teacher because I love seeing a learner go from "I don't understand this" to "I've got it!" I believe every learner can succeed when the work is explained clearly, at their own pace, in a relaxed environment where they feel comfortable asking questions. I work with the curriculum every day, so I know what learners are expected to be able to answer in tests and exams.

I explain science in a clear, step-by-step way, so learners understand the "why" behind a concept instead of memorising it. With a BHSc degree and classroom experience in both Natural Sciences and Life Sciences, I can connect the theory to everyday examples that make it easier to remember.
A typical lesson starts with a short recap of what was difficult, then focuses on one topic. We work through examples and practice questions, and I show learners how to answer test and exam questions correctly, including how to use the right terminology and structure their answers. Lessons can be given in English or Afrikaans, whichever the learner prefers.
My lessons are aimed at Grade 4 to 9 Natural Sciences learners and Grade 10 to 12 Life Sciences learners who want better marks, a stronger understanding, or extra support to catch up.
