About Hillary

I am a college student at a top Chinese university with fluent, native-level American English and full bilingual proficiency in Mandarin Chinese. My lessons are completely oral and conversation-based, designed to help students of all ages and levels feel comfortable actually speaking English out loud. Rather than working through textbooks or grammar drills, we spend the lesson just talking, about topics that are interesting and relevant to you, so that speaking starts to feel natural rather than stressful. I keep things relaxed and low pressure, and I adapt each session to suit the individual student, whether that is a child building basic confidence, a teenager preparing for study abroad, or a professional looking to communicate more fluently at work. For students who are fluent in Mandarin, my bilingualism is a real advantage. Whenever an English expression is hard to grasp, I can explain it directly in Chinese, which makes it much easier to understand and remember. :)

About the lesson

I believe that the best way to learn spoken English is simply to speak it, in a setting where you feel relaxed and comfortable enough to make mistakes. My lessons are entirely oral and conversation-based, with no textbooks or written exercises. From the very first session I focus on understanding what each student wants to get out of their lessons, whether that is sounding more natural in everyday conversation, building confidence for work or school, or just getting more comfortable speaking out loud. I adapt my approach to suit each student individually, so lessons never feel one-size-fits-all.

Because I am fully bilingual in English and Mandarin Chinese, I am also able to explain English phrases, expressions, and pronunciation tips directly in Chinese for students who find that helpful, making it much easier to bridge the gap between the two languages. I am a fluent American English speaker with a genuine enthusiasm for helping others speak more confidently.
