About Maya
Hi, I'm Maya!
I'm in my third year of Vet Science at the University of Queensland.
I am Australian and French, so I speak English and French fluently.
I graduated highschool from an American school in Kathmandu, Nepal. I took Advanced Biology, French, Chemistry, Calculus and English, among other regular courses. I received grades in the format of the American Advanced Placement. When I applied to university, QTAC converted those grades into an ATAR. I also took the SAT twice over my years in the American system, my highest result being a 1390.
I have really been enjoying my university experience, and would love to help younger students understand content and learn how they study best!

In high school, I spent a year as a teaching assistant for a grade 9 French class. I have also spent the last year and a half at university tutoring an animal biology and the first year vet courses.
As a teacher, I like to provide multiple options for activities and let the students choose how they learn best. This works with my own learning style (I learn and practice with different resources), and lets students guide their own learning without the burden of managing resources, so they can fully focus on content.
In teaching French, I ask the student what aspect of the language they feel least comfortable with (speaking, listening, writing, reading) and focus on that. Often, I try to do a lot of speaking and listening, since it is the most important for travel and daily use.
