About Adeline

Something that I hear a lot as both an educator and a student is that some people are born smart while others are simply not, that academic success is predestined rather than earned. The truth of the matter is that human beings are an inherently capable species. By simply being human, each person holds within them a plethora of potential. However, it’s how that potential is both perceived and achieved that makes the difference. Every person is an individual, and the way we embark on success follows suit with this pattern. I am an educator who has built a career on ensuring this potential is acquired through personalization and one-on-one collaboration, knowing my students well enough to craft how they will learn best and ultimately unlock their fullest potential. In case you’re not yet convinced, here’s a quick peek into my credentials:

- Led individualized, one-on-one reading instruction & assessments for young learners (ages 4-6), with most reaching a 2nd-grade reading level in a year

- Background in editing and creative writing, including blog content and professional book editing

- Coached college essay writing (helped a student with a 2.3 GPA gain admission to two engineering programs at Michigan State and Oregon State)

- Experience teaching STEM concepts to ages 3-12

- Coursework in developmental psychology informing how I adapt instruction to each learner

As a psychology student, my lessons follow intentional cognitive architectures that have psychological backing. Meaning, I teach by applying methods that will concretely improve one’s retention and comprehension of course materials. For example, I emphasize a Cognitive Apprenticeship model to teach literature, language arts, reading, and writing. This involves me modeling my own thinking process out loud, then gradually shifting responsibility to the student as they build confidence. I’ll often pair this model with Interleaving (mixing different problem types/topics within a single lesson to strengthen memory) and Dual Coding Theory (pairing verbal information with non-verbal images).

In spite of my use of psychology-dense learning designs, I put great effort into ensuring my lessons are comprehensive for each of my students. This often means getting to know the student and recognizing their own learning patterns and conversation preferences before fine-tuning how I present my information. This is about pairing proven cognitive science with authentic attentiveness to who you are as a learner. Some students respond best to visual scaffolding, others need more verbal talk-through or extra repetition before a concept finally clicks. I adjust accordingly to a person rather than sticking to a single script.

My goal isn’t just to help you finish an assignment or pass a test (though that is certainly a priority), but to build study habits and thinking patterns that you can carry forward long after our sessions end. When you do so, that’s how I know I’ve done my duty as an educator.
