About Izabel

Olá! I'm Izzy, a native Brazilian from Recife and a language teacher who believes that learning Portuguese should be about communication, confidence, and real life, not just memorizing grammar rules.

For more than 15 years, I've been traveling, living abroad, learning languages, and figuring out how to communicate across cultures. I've lived in Buenos Aires, London, and Berlin, worked on a cruise ship, backpacked through Europe, and traveled across four continents. Along the way, I became fluent in English and Spanish, so I know firsthand what it feels like to start speaking a language from scratch, make mistakes, feel lost, and eventually find your voice.

Now I'm back in Brazil, and I want to help you experience Brazil beyond the tourist version. I teach the Portuguese people actually speak, the expressions, pronunciation, cultural references, everyday conversations, and little things you won't always find in a textbook or apps.

About the lesson

There’s no one-size-fits-all way to learn a language, and your Portuguese lessons shouldn’t feel like one.

Before we begin, I’ll take the time to understand you: your goals, your previous experience with Portuguese, the situations you want to feel confident in, and the way you learn best.

From there, I’ll create a learning experience that fits your level, your needs, and your goals — with personalized feedback and lessons designed to help you make real progress.

Deadly! Izabel is absolutely the best tutor I have worked with!

I have worked with 3 other teachers in the past to learn Portuguese or Spanish, and Izabel is - BY FAR - the best.

Her lessons plans are interactive and she uses a combination of tools to incorporate listening, speaking, reading and comprehension practice.

When I first started with Izabel, she was very interested in my specific goals for wanting to learn Portuguese, and she walked me through different learning paths to achieve these goals. I can tell that Izabel really listened to my goals, as each class is individually tailored to me and my desired outcomes.

She also provides a lot of "real world" scenarios, including short-form or slang that a local or native speaker might use when speaking or texting.

Outside of Izabel's awesome lesson structure, she has a wonderful personality. We laugh a lot during classes and she makes it very easy and comfortable to learn a new language.

I would absolutely 10000% recommend Izabel to anyone wanting to learn Portuguese!!

Deadly! I have only had one lesson with Izzy but feel very comfortable with her teaching style & personality. She is very friendly & very easy to communicate with. I am definitely continuing on with her. She is tailoring a plan for me & I am looking forward to many more lessons.

Learning Portuguese with Izabel was one of the highlights of my trip. She brought together people from Poland, Germany, and other countries in the hostel and made the class super interactive. She’s got this amazing, warm energy that makes you feel comfortable, even I if I was shy about speaking. Our “lessons” ended up being fun, natural chats and I learned a lot without even noticing.
