About George

As a Computer Science PhD Researcher at Newcastle University with over six years of tutoring experience, I am passionate about making STEM and programming accessible, engaging, and highly rewarding.

I hold a BSc (Hons) in Computer Science (Security and Resilience) and have successfully guided students of all ages—from eight-year-olds taking their first steps in coding to mature learners and university students. My expertise spans formal academic specifications (GCSE, A-Level, and Undergraduate Computer Science) alongside hands-on, practical programming in Python, Rust, C, HTML, and CSS.

Beyond academia, I am an active volunteer with a major international First Aid charity, holding an Emergency First Responder qualification. This underscores a commitment to patience, responsibility, and clear communication—traits that seamlessly translate into a supportive, safe, and professional tutoring environment.

About the lesson

Computer Science is a dynamic subject with fascinating links to almost every modern discipline, and my teaching approach actively reflects this excitement. I recognise that no two learners are the same, which is why my lessons are entirely tailored to your bespoke needs.

In our early sessions, we will collaborate to establish a clear, adaptable roadmap. You will always know what to expect from each hour, and the plan will evolve naturally alongside your progress and development.

Once the foundation is set, we focus heavily on applied learning. I specialise in breaking down complex technical theories using approachable, real-world analogies to solidify understanding.

My ultimate goal is to bridge the gap between abstract theory and practical application, ensuring you feel entirely confident tackling exams, coursework, or personal coding projects.

Lessons are typically one hour in length and conducted online, providing a flexible, highly focused digital learning space.

George has been a wonderful role model to our son, where his calm and positive disposition coupled with his strong computing background meant that he has played an important role in providing the stretch and challenge in Computer Science for our son.
George is a natural mentor - he was able to pinpoint from his first session with our son (aged 12 at the time) what areas he needed to focus on, and had a clear plan for him going forward. His indepth knowledge, experience and enthusiasm for computing has not only encouraged and inspired our son but has also provided him the drive and confidence to pursue a future career in tech. I would highly recommend George to anyone.
