• 1) Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?

  I speak Bulgarian because it is my native language. I speak Russian and English, which I learned at school and in University.

• 2) Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

  The Bulgarian language is a perfect example of mixing cultures. There are many Greek, Turkish, old Slavonic words we use in our everyday speech. Many poets, such as : Christo Botev, Peyo Yavorov, have left Left an Indelible Mark on Bulgarian Literature

• 3) Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behavior in the language that you particularly like?

  I love our custom :Martenica: A Martenitsa is a small piece of adornment, made of white and red yarn and usually in the form of two dolls, a white male and a red female. Martenitsi are worn from Baba Marta day (March 1) until the wearer first sees a stork, swallow or blossom tree. .

• 4) Why does speaking this language matter to you?

  This is my heritage, culture, reason for national pride

• 5) What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?

  Nouns, adjectives and pronouns have gender; he Bulgarian verb system is complex: there are 7 tenses; indicative, imperative, conditional, subjunctive, renarrative mood; imperfective and perfective aspects

• 6) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.

  I have a student who speaks Bulgarian very well. She works in the citizen advise bureau. She recently had a meeting with a Bulgarian family where there was no interpreter and she managed to cope very well. It made me feel very happy and proud of her successes. :)

• 7) How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

  The benefits of learning new language skills while travelling are endless. Languages allow us to connect with strangers and learn about different cultures while reflecting on our own. Don't be afraid to speak and to make mistakes, this would help to improve your language skills

• 8) What makes you a Superprof in language?

  I am a Bulgarian language teacher with more than 20 years experience as a teacher. I use individualistic approach in my lessons and I always consider student's capabilities and achievements and I try to to meet all their needs. I diversify my lessons with lots of fun tasks to keep everyone interested. I have only positive feed back from my students. I don't know if this makes me a Superprof, but it definitely makes me happy and proud!
