About Jake
My name is Jake and I am a recent graduate from the University of Cambridge with a first-class degree in Philosophy. I have a perfect academic record with 3 A*s at A-Level and 9 Grade 9s at GCSE. My academic success has come from scouring mark schemes, syllabuses, and examiner's reports. As such, I know well what examiners are looking for and how to tick all their boxes. I have many hours of experience tutoring in university admissions, philosophy, and other A-Level subjects. I can also help more generally with philosophical writing advice and Oxbridge admissions. I have been successful in achieving Oxbridge offers for several students since I have begun tutoring.
I adore philosophy. I think that it provides tools to tackle, and hopefully answer, the most fundamental questions that preoccupy us about ourselves, our world, and how we ought to organise ourselves in it. In my lessons, I love to discuss these questions with students and see them bring their own unique experiences and interpretations to the table. It is my favourite thing when a student provides a unique and creative example or objection to a particular idea!
I am exam-focused in my teaching, but I also keep my lessons engaging and fun. I hope to share how incredibly rewarding philosophy can be, and how it is much more relevant to our everyday lives than we typically assume.

My tutoring style is friendly and exam-focused, and I always adapt my lessons to my students' needs. I can provide lessons on topics the student has never encountered before or focus more on exam technique and writing skills, whatever you need help with!
Prior to our first lesson, I will ask you to outline what your specific needs are and any areas which you have historically found the least clear or have performed more poorly on. I can then tailor our first lessons in order to clarify these misunderstandings. If working towards an upcoming exam, my lessons will be specifically designed around the exam board you are working with: I have detailed knowledge of all the various exam boards at A-Level for Philosophy, Religious Studies, and Ethics.
I first and foremost see philosophy as a skill, not just something you read about. In my lessons, I encourage my students to grapple with the issues themselves, making them explain complex concepts in their own words and come up with their own interpretations and objections. Along the way, I hope to also engender the same love I have for the subject in my students.
I also offer tutoring for students applying to Oxbridge, especially for students applying to Philosophy, Philosophy and Theology, HSPS, and PPE.
