About Romy

I’m a University of Cambridge Philosophy graduate and have recently completed an MA in Medical Ethics and Law at King’s College London. I’m passionate about philosophy and particularly enjoy discussing ideas with others and finding clear ways of approaching difficult questions.

While at Cambridge, I was President of my college Philosophy Society, where I organised talks and events designed to make philosophy engaging and accessible beyond the classroom. I know that philosophy can sometimes feel abstract or intimidating, so I aim to create a relaxed environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, testing out arguments and getting things wrong along the way.

Aside from my academic background, I’m an approachable and chilled person. My main hope is to build a genuine rapport with my students and get to know them as individuals, so that lessons feel enjoyable and something we can both look forward to. Philosophy is at its best when it feels like a conversation so I want students to feel able to ask lots of questions and enjoy the process of working things out together.

About the lesson

My approach to tutoring is systematic but friendly. I teach students to genuinely engage with ideas and to become critical thinkers, since this is the heart of the discipline!

Rather than simply memorising material, I encourage students to break down difficult concepts, identify the structure of arguments and develop their own reasoned responses. I use discussion and questioning alongside more structured exercises, adapting my approach to the individual student and how they learn best.

Lessons are typically one hour. Depending on the student’s goals, we can focus on understanding philosophical texts and theories, constructing and evaluating arguments, essay planning and writing, exam technique, or exploring particular topics in greater depth.

I graduated from the University of Cambridge with a degree in Philosophy and have recently completed an MA in Medical Ethics and Law from King’s College London. My academic experience has given me a strong grounding in philosophical analysis and the ability to develop a compelling argument.
