About Laura
I studied English at the University of Cambridge and graduated with a Double First Class Honours. I have extensive experience (over 4000 hours) tutoring children from age 5 up to GCSE - both in person and online, and one-on-one and in small groups. My main tutoring experience is with children sitting or preparing for their 11+ and 13+ exams, for which I cover English, Maths, Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning, and GCSE students sitting English Literature & English Language. I have also taught students who require more general subject and homework help, covering English, Maths, History, Geography, Latin and languages at pre-GCSE (Year 9) level. For 11+, I have particular experience helping international students gain places at schools in the UK.
As well as one-on-one tutoring I have also run online courses for 3-6 students at a time in English, Creative Writing and Verbal Reasoning across multiple age groups (5-7, 7-9 and 11+). I have also run in person exam surgeries for 11+ students in English and VR, a course for primary school students preparing them for interviews and public speaking, and online seminars for parents introducing them to Verbal Reasoning.
While at university I received numerous awards for academic achievement, including a prize for achieving a First in both parts of the Tripos and one for achieving the highest mark in my college year in the Renaissance paper in my second year.
I believe in taking a very personalised approach to each individual student, working to understand and cater to their specific needs and abilities. I am very passionate about the subjects I teach and seek to inspire students to really get something out of the material, as well as excel in their exams.
Alongside tutoring I am a professional actor and writer.
Student/parent reviews:
'Laura is a passionate and very experienced teacher. She explains the lessons clearly in an understandable way and is always encouraging me to look for ways to improve my work. Whenever I maybe do not understand she is patient and tells me again so I get it. I really enjoy myself and in these lessons I feel confident to write my heart out. Lessons with Laura are valuable and I feel I have in these few lessons with Laura, take my writing a level higher with her help. As Isaac Newton said “I only see further standing on the shoulders of giants,” I think Laura has given my English a tremendous boost and I would fully recommend her to any student.'

Deadly! incredible and incredibly smart tutor
After I had missed almost the entirety of Year 10, Laura was incredibly insightful in helping me structure my essays, as well as helping me find new points of analysis through our conversations. She put so much effort into our lessons which made them very tailored to exactly what I needed.
I would definitely recommend her!

Laura taught my 11 year old daughter for a couple of months in preparation for her 11+ and interviews and my daughter liked her very much and has helped improve her english and interview tecniques and finally just heard she has been offeres a place at her svhool of choice which is wonderful. I have no hestation in recommending Laura as a professional and intuitive tutor - Thank you this site
Throughout my PhD in philosophy at the University of Cambridge, Laura was an incredible support who frequently read my work and offered advice both stylistically and in terms of content. She both has an extensive knowledge of British literature and drama, and is very capable of quickly grasping and mastering new material. Her particular strengths are Shakespeare and issues on gender and mental health in literature and drama among other things.
