About Nella

Teaching Experience: I am a native English speaker from Canada with over 5 years of teaching experience.
- I taught Business English in France for 3 years.
- The past couple of years I volunteered as an ESL teacher to Canadian newcomers & refugees at a local community centre.
- I also taught a group of Korean students for a period of 8 months before the pandemic at my local church.
- I taught computer skills to seniors during the pandemic to help them stay connected.
- I have experience teaching one-to-one, small groups & classes. I have taught in person & online.

Other qualifications & experience:
- I have a bachelor's degree in business (sales & marketing).
- I have over 10 years of experience in sales & marketing where I worked in multiple industries: health, tourism & hospitality, education, and Financial.
- I have completed an intensive ESL tutoring training and received a certificate from my community for my contribution to ESL.

About the lesson

I am a Native English speaker based in Canada with over 5 years teaching English as a Second Language in my hometown and abroad.
My specialties include:

My classes are geared towards adults and young adults (Age 16+) who need English for work, studies and daily life. All levels welcome but I am a best fit for those with previous English experience who wish to advance. I am particularly interested in helping students who wish to permanently reside in British Columbia, Canada.

What can you expect?
During your first free session, you will have an assessment. We will also go over your goals, expectations, your strengths & weaknesses, and other important factors. From there, I will customize a program to suit your needs.

Here is a Sample Lesson Plan

Level: Intermediate
Topic/Unit: Finance/ Personal Accounting
Objective: To be able to create a monthly budget in English & list 3 financial goals

Key words: expense, income, financial advisor/planner, savings, pension plan, tight budget
Skills practiced: Conversation (talking & listening), Writing (spelling), numbers & money (pronunciation)

Warm-up: Discuss these questions
1. What was your last big purchase?
2. What is the difference between a necessity and luxury item? Give examples
3. Do you consider yourself money savvy?
4. Do you have any money-saving tips?
5. Can money buy happiness? If you won the lottery, what would you spend it on?
6. Do you keep a budget to track your finances?

Activity: Create a Budget Template. List all items that need to be included in your budget.

Individual practice: Create your own budget and fill it out.

Feedback: At the end of the session, I always give feedback to my students. More importantly, they give me their feedback

Homework: Yes, you get homework! You will get an assignment that will be corrected.

My teaching philosophy is that student and teacher are a team! We both need to make an active and enthusiastic commitment to these sessions. The feedback at the end of each session is to ensure that these sessions are meaningful to you.

Nella is a member of our church. She committed an ESL teacher. She was a volunteer ESL teacher and taught grammar & conversation classes to a small group of beginner Korean students. You can always hear laughter in her class and her students always had fun with her. There was a dramatic improvement in a few of her students. Many started out very shy but were a lot more confident talking towards the end.
