About David

Hello, and thanks for visiting my profile! I’m an English tutor with over a decade of international teaching experience. I'm Cambridge CELTA Level 5 qualified – the gold standard in English language teaching. I also have a BA (Hons) degree in English & Film Studies and an MA degree in Human Resource Management (I know what makes a good CV stand out!). Since 2012, I’ve supported students and professionals from around the world, including South America and Asia, to improve their English for exams, study, work, and relocation. My former students include university applicants, business professionals, international school pupils, professional footballers and even a commercial airline pilot. I’ve helped every one of my IELTS and TOEFL students pass their exams – with a 100% success rate. I teach with empathy, structure, and flexibility. My lessons are tailored to each learner – whether you want to boost fluency, sharpen writing skills, improve pronunciation, or build the confidence to speak in any setting. I also support CV writing, creative writing, film critique, and Portuguese-English accent coaching, drawing on my academic and creative background. I’m based in Newcastle upon Tyne and teach both online and in person. I offer a free 20-minute consultation to understand your goals and show you how I can help. About the lesson

‍ My Teaching Approach My approach is learner-centred, friendly, and flexible. I tailor each lesson to the student’s goals, interests, and learning style – whether you're preparing for an exam, improving fluency, or writing a standout CV (I have an MA in Human Resource Management). I believe people learn best when they feel relaxed and supported, so my lessons are practical, engaging, and always encouraging. I offer both structured learning plans (e.g. for IELTS/TOEFL, academic writing, or professional development) and informal conversation-based sessions, which are great for fluency, confidence, and pronunciation. Think of it like a kickabout with language – effective, but relaxed. How I Teach I use real-world examples, interactive tasks, and targeted feedback to help you develop key skills. Lessons often include vocabulary development, listening/speaking tasks, writing practice, and tailored homework if desired. I’m happy to work with coursebooks, job applications, film clips, personal writing – whatever suits your learning style and goals. I also support learners with pronunciation challenges and creative writing development, drawing on my film and literature background (BA Hons in English & Film Studies) Lesson Format Typical lesson: 60 minutes (longer sessions available on request) Available online or in person (Newcastle upon Tyne area) One-to-one, but small groups possible by arrangement.
