About Will

As a recent English Literature graduate from Queen Mary University of London and a CELTA-qualified instructor, I combine strong academic experience with professional teaching training. I am 24 years old with a deep passion for music, literature, and travel, and most students find me affable, supportive, and highly capable in helping them achieve their goals. While I always enjoy a friendly chat and a laugh in my classes, I have developed strong skills in integrating this warmth into a focused structure that keeps the lesson moving and achieves our learning aims. I have a wide variety of personal interests, but I thoroughly enjoy learning about the passions of others and discussing them.

About the lesson

I have over 1,000 hours of experience in online and face-to-face tutoring across both English language and English literature. My professional teaching journey began after completing my English Literature degree at Queen Mary University of London, followed by earning my CELTA certificate from International House Mexico. During my CELTA training, I was graded on 6 hours of strictly observed teaching practice, which solidified my practical skills in lesson planning and student engagement.

The skills I mastered across my training inform my active teaching style, namely a student-led approach, delayed error correction, guided discovery, and elicitation. To those unfamiliar with these terms, it simply means that my main goal is to promote communication. The majority of our lesson conversations will be carried by you, the student, rather than me. My lessons are guaranteed to be a supportive opportunity for you to speak as much English as possible in our time together. Toward the end of our session, I provide a comprehensive review of any errors made so that we can correct them together. As we build a working relationship, every lesson becomes increasingly personalised to your specific learning strengths, needs, and goals.

While the majority of my past clients have been adults, I have extensive experience teaching students aged 6 to 60+ and am extremely adaptable to different language levels and learning goals. This includes casual conversation, fluency building, and professional business English for ESL learners, as well as exam preparation, essay writing, analytical skills, and critical reading for academic students. I am also well placed to assist literature enthusiasts who simply want to engage in deep, insightful discussions about books, history, philosophy, and cinema.

My standard lessons are 50 minutes long, though this can be adapted to longer sessions depending on your specific preferences. I am fully equipped to teach online globally across different time zones, and I am also available for dedicated face-to-face, in-person lessons for students located in the Whitley Bay area. Outside of teaching, I am an extensive lifelong reader with a passion for music, art, history, and politics, and I am always fascinated to learn about the unique interests of my students.
