About Kaitlyn
Hi, my name is Kaitlyn! I've lived most of my life in the US, but have also spent some time living in Taiwan and France. (For reference I am a native speaker of English, B2 speaker of Chinese, A2 speaker of Spanish, and A2 speaker of French). I earned my TEFL language teaching certificate in France, where I taught to native speakers of English, French, Spanish, and Chinese. Besides teaching languages, I've also TAed courses in Clinical Neuroscience, Microbiology Research, and Creative Writing. I graduated from undergrad with honors in both Neuroscience and Interdisciplinary Studies of Culture. In the future, my goal is to become a medical interpreter for Chinese and English!

I like to teach Chinese like a set of building blocks. By putting these building block characters together in different ways, we can create new meanings. This way of thinking is also great for understanding the nuance of each individual character, as well as the nature of Chinese as a language overall. I teach through a combination of slide presentations and discussions. I know both Simplified and Traditional characters, so I can teach whichever you would prefer! And since I've lived in Taiwan and have travelled in China, I can speak personally to which vocabulary and grammar are most vital for communicating with Chinese speakers
