About Chelsea
I'm a licensed English Language Arts teacher in New York City with years of experience working with middle and high school students in both classroom and coaching settings. I hold a graduate degree in education and have spent my career focused on one thing: helping students become stronger, more confident readers and writers.
Beyond teaching, I've worked as an instructional coach, supporting both students and educators in developing the skills that matter most in ELA. That dual perspective — as a teacher and a coach — means I bring a high level of intentionality to every tutoring session.
I believe every student is capable of growth when given the right support and the right approach. My sessions are structured, encouraging, and always tailored to the individual. Whether your student is working to catch up, keep up, or get ahead, I'm committed to meeting them where they are and helping them move forward with skill and confidence.

My tutoring is rooted in years of classroom teaching and instructional coaching, which means I don't just know the content — I know how to teach it. Every session starts with understanding where a student is and what's actually getting in the way, whether that's decoding, comprehension, organization, or confidence.
A typical session might open with a short reading or writing warm-up, move into direct instruction on a specific skill, and close with guided practice so the student leaves with something concrete. I adjust in real time based on how the student is responding — if something isn't clicking, we try a different angle.
What sets me apart is my background in both teaching and coaching. I've supported other educators in improving their instruction, which means I think carefully about how learning happens, not just what is being taught. I'm also experienced working with students who need more than surface-level support — including students reading significantly below grade level and multilingual learners.
My lessons are best suited for students in grades 6 through 12 who are working on reading comprehension, essay writing, literary analysis, or general ELA skills. I'm especially effective with students who have struggled with traditional instruction and need someone who will slow down, explain differently, and build their skills from the ground up.
