About Emily
Hi! My name is Emily. I have a degree in Elementary and Early Childhood Education, a Master’s in Reading and Literacy, and I am a certified Reading Specialist. I am passionate about helping young learners grow into confident, capable readers through supportive and engaging instruction. As a tutor, I focus on building strong, confident readers through explicit, structured, and engaging instruction. I use a multi-sensory approach rooted in the Orton-Gillingham method, which means students learn by seeing, hearing, speaking, and doing. This is especially effective for early learners and students who may be struggling with reading or phonics.
A typical lesson includes:
A quick review of previously learned skills
Explicit instruction of a new phonics or literacy concept
Multi-sensory practice activities (reading, writing, and word work)
Guided reading or application of the skill in context
A brief wrap-up to reinforce learning and build confidence
What sets me apart as a tutor is my combination of classroom experience and specialized literacy training. As a kindergarten teacher and reading specialist, I understand how to meet young learners where they are developmentally while also using evidence-based strategies that work. I focus not only on skill-building but also on helping students feel confident and motivated.
My lessons are designed for early elementary students, typically Pre-K through 2nd grade, including:
