Hi! I am so glad you found your way here. Whether you are struggling with reading, working on your writing, or just trying to keep up with your English class, you are in the right place, and I am here to help.

I am a middle school English Language Arts teacher with a Master's degree in Reading, Language, and Literacy. I have been working with students in grades 6 through 12 for years, and what keeps me going every single day is that moment when something finally clicks. The moment when a student who thought they "just weren't a reader" finishes a book they actually loved, or when a student who dreaded writing turns in an essay they are genuinely proud of. That lightbulb moment never gets old.

My approach is straightforward: I will figure out exactly where things are breaking down for you, and then we will fix it together. We will build a plan step by step, at a pace that makes sense for you. I will not talk at you. I will talk with you.

About the lesson

My tutoring style is conversational and rooted in AVID inquiry learning. This means, I don't just lecture, I ask questions, listen carefully, and guide students to discover points of confusion and answers themselves. This builds real understanding rather than temporary memorization. At the same time, every session is structured and step-by-step, so students always know where they are, where they're going, and why it matters. I meet students where they are and build from there, combining clear instruction with meaningful dialogue that keeps them engaged and thinking critically.

Every student is different, so I always begin our work together by diagnosing the root of the problem rather than the symptoms. Is a student struggling with reading comprehension, or is it actually vocabulary holding them back? Is writing the issue, or is it organizing thoughts clearly? Once I understand the real challenge, I create a targeted plan.
From there, each session follows a reliable rhythm:

1. Review — We revisit what was covered last time to reinforce retention
2. Introduce — I present the new concept clearly, with examples and discussion
3. Practice — The student applies the skill with my guidance and real-time feedback

This structure gives students confidence because they always know what to expect, while the AVID inquiry-based conversation keeps sessions dynamic and never boring.

My tutoring is designed for students in grades 6-12 across a wide range of needs:

- Middle schoolers (grades 6-8) building foundational reading and writing skills
- High schoolers (grades 9-12) tackling more complex texts, essays, and exam prep
- Students with IEPs or learning differences who need patient, differentiated instruction and a tutor who knows how to adapt
- Advanced students looking to enrich their skills, tackle challenging literature, or sharpen their writing beyond grade level
