About Sheila
I am a recently retired special education teacher with more than 20 years teaching students with a variety of diagnosed disabilities. I have experience with administering and interpreting diagnostic assessments (Woodcock-Johnson Tests of Achievement, Woodcock-Johnson Tests of Oral Language, GORT-5, PPVT, EOWVT, and many informal assessments, including PAST, CORE phonics survey, Quick Phonics Screener, etc). I am an avid reader and believe all students have the capacity to read and to continually improve their skills.

Orton Gillingham is a methodology, not a program. It emphasizes multisensory learning which combines sight, hearing, touch, and movement. It works well for students with dyslexia or SLD- reading who lack a basic level of phonemic awareness. Each lesson is individualized, diagnostic, and prescriptive. All 50 minute lessons are individualized for each student. Lessons are diagnostic and prescriptive. I have room for one additional student with availability on M/Th or T/Th.
