About Megan
Hi, I’m Megan — a certified PK–3 teacher, early literacy specialist, and the founder of Mrs. Avery’s Reading Room. I’ve spent my career helping young learners become confident, joyful, and independent readers through structured, research-based instruction. I specialize in working with early readers who need: - Stronger phonics foundations - Support with decoding and encoding - Improved fluency and accuracy - Confidence-building, step-by-step instruction - A patient, encouraging teacher who understands how young children learn My approach is grounded in the Science of Reading and the UFLI Foundations program. I believe children thrive when instruction is clear, systematic, and tailored to their individual needs — and when they feel safe, supported, and proud of their progress. Parents describe me as calm, structured, and highly effective. UFLI Structured Literacy Instruction | Science of Reading Aligned My lessons follow a systematic, explicit, and highly engaging structured literacy approach using the UFLI Foundations program. Every session is designed to help young readers build confidence, independence, and a strong foundation in phonics and decoding. What Your Child Will Experience in Each Lesson - A predictable, supportive routine that helps students feel safe and successful - Explicit phonics instruction taught in small, manageable steps - Hands-on, multisensory activities that make learning fun and memorable - Targeted practice with decoding and encoding (reading and spelling) - High-frequency word instruction using research-based strategies - Connected text reading so students apply new skills in real words and sentences - Immediate, encouraging feedback to build confidence and mastery How I Personalize Instruction Every child receives a customized learning plan based on: - Current phonics skills - Reading fluency and accuracy - Strengths, challenges, and learning style - Classroom expectations and grade-level standards I continuously monitor progress and adjust instruction so your child is always working at the “just-right” level—challenged, but never overwhelmed.
