About Erna
I am a 26yo mother of a beautiful & kind daughter. I am a sister, aunt, true friend & selfless individual. I see & carry myself as a simple kind person with a pure love of children & language - because it is an essential part of the human experience. It's how we express love, fear, anger & how we can better understand & get to know our fellow humans. It's basically like breathing, that's how important understanding each other is. I know & believe that there is no thing as a child or person for that matter who can't be taught something they've had no understanding of before or who can't be bettered in any way, shape or form. For years I've seen kids being ridiculed or being called "dumb" or something that horrendous, and it always broke my heart because at times, except from their peers, these foul words would even come from teachers & their own parents. I took it upon myself to help kids in my class if they did not understand something. I went to their houses after school, sat with them, sat with their families and saw how they excelled in other areas, which can be used to help them understand other subjects. Some came from horrible living conditions & had no help or time to be taught that which they did not understand. There was also the ignorance regarding mental disabilities, which would cause even more struggle in an undiagnosed child, who wants to learn & attend with everything in them, but do not have the necessary help & understanding they so desperately need. Along with My TEFL certificate, I also have obtained a diploma in the development & education in early childhood & a diploma in special needs - which I plan on using to the best of my abilities whenever need be. I see teaching as one of the most beautiful ways to contribute to society & help children feel capable & instill ambition in them. Teaching should be flexible, in the sense that it can adapt & cater to every individual child in a classroom, because each child is unique in their own way & just because a lesson or topic or subject works for one learner, does not mean it works & is understood the same by another. I want to spend time on each student individually, so as to make sure that we all get to the finish line together. I attended University for Communication studies, but a tragic event caused me not to be able to finish. It broke me but I rediscovered my love of teaching after, when other students came to me for help even though I dropped out. I am busy working towards my teaching degree, and thereafter I will obtain my psychology degree so as to one day be able to teach & be a guidance counselor at a school. That is my dream & I yearn for an opportunity to help & inspire as many children as I can along the way.

What makes me unique as a teacher is an honest passion for wanting see children do well in school, with a focus on having fun & being comfortable and happy around me. From visual lessons for kids who struggle with reading, to teaching kids how to use shorthand as a form of helping them remember BIG words so that they can understand the language & express themselves in the best possible way.
I am proficient in English today, but I was not a native speaker myself - through a love of languages & traveling I taught myself when I was 6yo - and from my journey in primary school to high school, I was always one of the top students when it came to the English language.
A typical lesson from me will consist of respect, kindness, help from step 1 to the end, until you can run on your own - I make examples of every day life & their own experience & language translation to get the message as clear as possible to them.
My lessons are aimed at non-English speakers, or English speakers who struggle with the intricacies of English, & everyone in between, with plenty of room for mistakes & good laughs as I help them build a willingness to learn in a fun, healthy manner.
