About Ronaldo
I’m a chess master with a FIDE Elo rating of 2100 and over 10 years of experience teaching chess to students of all levels. I currently teach chess in several schools across County Galway and run my own chess club, Emerald Knights, which focuses on fostering a love for the game and developing strategic thinking.
My approach is centered around building each student’s confidence and helping them achieve their individual goals, whether that means learning the basics, mastering strategic play, or competing in tournaments.
My background includes coaching more than 1,000 students of different ages and organizing various chess clubs and tournaments. These experiences have given me an in-depth understanding of how to make chess both fun and educational.
As your coach, I promise to deliver professionalism, dedication, and personalized instruction to help you progress on your chess journey. My teaching style is adaptive and interactive, ensuring each lesson is engaging and effective for your needs.

My approach to teaching chess is highly student-centered and tailored to each individual’s skill level and learning style. I believe that every chess player, whether beginner or advanced, has unique strengths and areas for improvement. My lessons focus on:
Interactive Analysis: I use real game analysis to highlight strategies, decision-making processes, and common mistakes. Students learn to think critically about positions and understand the ideas behind moves.
Active Practice: I emphasize practical play, encouraging students to apply new strategies in real games. We do post-game analysis to ensure lessons are fully integrated.
Progressive Complexity: I build complexity step-by-step, ensuring foundational concepts like tactics, openings, and endgames are thoroughly understood before moving on to more advanced topics.
Enjoyment and Confidence: My goal is to make learning fun while building confidence. I use puzzles, challenges, and engaging exercises to keep the lessons dynamic.
