About Hayden
I discovered my passion for chess through competitive play and strategic analysis, leading me to study B.Sc in Cognitive Science and M.A in Game Theory. Over 9 years, I have taught learners ranging from casual enthusiasts to tournament players, helping them build analytical skills, tactical awareness, and strategic confidence in a structured, engaging environment.
I emphasise interactive, student-centred lessons that balance practical play, problem-solving exercises, and theoretical discussions. Each lesson is tailored to the student’s level and goals, fostering curiosity, critical thinking, and a deep understanding of chess strategy. I encourage learners to reflect, analyse, and make informed decisions on the board.
Outside teaching, I study grandmaster games, analyse emerging strategies, and participate in tournaments, bringing real-world insight into lessons. Witnessing students grow from hesitant beginners to confident strategists is incredibly rewarding. Supporting their cognitive and competitive development while nurturing a love for chess remains the most fulfilling aspect of my work.

Chess is most rewarding when learners understand both tactical motifs and long-term strategic planning. My lessons emphasise opening principles, mid-game strategies, endgame techniques, calculation, pattern recognition, and psychological aspects of play. Each session combines structured exercises, puzzles, historical game analysis, and competitive scenario simulations, creating a deep understanding of the game. Students develop critical thinking, foresight, and the confidence to analyse positions independently while applying learned concepts effectively.
I customise lessons according to each student’s level and goals. Beginners focus on basic moves, piece coordination, simple tactics, and board awareness. Intermediate learners refine opening repertoires, calculation speed, positional understanding, and planning. Advanced learners explore complex combinations, advanced endgames, tournament preparation, and meta-strategic analysis. Every lesson integrates review, feedback, and practice exercises to ensure mastery and steady progression.
Chess lessons extend beyond the board. Students enhance analytical reasoning, decision-making, patience, and problem-solving skills that benefit other areas of life. My objective is to help learners think critically, play confidently, and enjoy the richness of chess. I strive to create an environment where students feel challenged, supported, and inspired to improve continuously.
