About Katrina
Hello! My name is Katrina Keyek, I have studied music and music theory throughout my schooling career, as well as beyond. My background includes piano, saxophone, both Bb clarinet and bass clarinet, and of course composition. I have studied with professors in the United States and the United Kingdom. Studying with professors at the University of Austin, University of Texas, The Royal College of Music, The Purcell School for Young Musicians, The Royal Northern College of Music, and Oxford. As well as sitting through seminars by established composers all around the world, including pupils/professors from Berkeley, Juilliard, and Hong Kong Academy to name a few. I have taught seminars of my own to GCSE and A-Level students in schools, and been a part of outreach programs to allow people the chance to learn and share new ideas within music. To which I am now looking to share my experiences to you by private lessons. Whether you are new to music composition or want more insight into music theory, I hope you will share that journey with me.

My composition lessons are for anyone over age of 6, for any level whether brand new to music composition or have some experience. All I ask is that you have at least basic understanding of music theory in the sense of knowing the different note names and clefs, and where on the staff each note sits. As composition and anything to do with music is an artistic skill, I believe composition lessons are there to teach both you and me as many people have different approaches and styles that they enjoy writing. My lessons will consist of looking at anything you want to show me and have some comments on, as well as me showing you what I am working on and looking at other pieces that can link to your wants and interests. Composition is great skill for anyone planning to continue music through school in GCSEs or A-Levels, or even if you just enjoy music as a hobby and want to expand your knowledge. So as for this, my lessons are one hour (if a lesson runs a bit long no extra cost is needed).

Katrina has a natural gift when it comes to music. Her understanding of different instrumental techniques and uses of blending them together in orchestrated pieces is outstanding. Having someone teach this at a beginner level will help shape the foundation of anyone's composition career.
