About Junyu
I grew up in Shanghai. Like many of my fellow Chinese, the poems and texts we learnt in school have stayed with us for life.
I once went with my father to a school reunion of his, and one of his classmates was challenged to recite an entire text from middle school that she had learnt more than 40 years ago. She just stood up and did it. It was an amazing feat, and the rest of us could not have done the same, but we remembered enough to be properly amazed that she did not make a mistake.
I have lived in English-speaking countries for over nine years, and have often thought about how to bring more people into this shared cultural space, woven together by this rich and intricate language.

Classical Chinese is deeply embedded in the modern Chinese language. My lessons introduce elements of Classical Chinese from the beginning and increasingly focus on them as your modern Chinese develops.
Lessons are structured according to your level. They include exercises from selected textbooks, close reading, and guided translation of classical poetry, literary works, and philosophical texts.
A typical lesson lasts 50 minutes.
Lessons are suitable for learners at different stages of modern Chinese, from beginner to advanced. They are designed for adult learners with a strong command of English.
