About Lisa
Hi, I’m Lisa, a museum educator and designer with a background in Classical Studies, Education, and Art History. I’ve spent over a decade helping learners K-12 connect with the ancient world, develop their writing voice, and build confidence in the humanities. My teaching style is warm, creative, and adaptive. Whether we’re working through an essay, unpacking a myth, or exploring a historical theme, I focus on helping students feel seen, supported, and capable. I often draw on visual prompts, object-based learning, and open-ended questions to encourage curiosity and critical thinking especially for learners who thrive outside traditional settings. I’ve worked in museums, galleries, and academic spaces, and I bring that interdisciplinary lens into everything I teach. As a tutor, I bring a collaborative and student-centered approach, grounded in my background as a museum and arts educator. I often incorporate object-based learning and visual thinking strategies (VTS) to spark curiosity, deepen understanding, and build critical thinking, especially in subjects like Classical Studies, English, and Art History. These methods help students make connections between what they see, what they know, and how they express it, whether they’re analyzing ancient myths or structuring an essay.
A typical session begins with a short check-in and goal setting, followed by discussion, interactive analysis, or writing practice depending on the student’s needs. I might use a visual prompt (like an artwork or artifact) to open up interpretation, encourage close reading, or prompt thoughtful writing. I aim to create a safe space for exploration, where students feel supported, not pressured.
What sets me apart is the ability to bring abstract or historical material to life through accessible, creative methods. I adapt my sessions to different learning styles, particularly visual and verbal learners, and I’m especially attuned to students who benefit from a slower, more reflective pace.
