About Melissa

Hi! My name is Melissa, and I’m a classically trained violinist originally from Costa Rica, now based in Montréal. Music has been a part of my life for over 10 years, and it has taken me from youth orchestras in Costa Rica to performances and teaching opportunities in Canada.

Throughout my musical journey, I’ve performed in orchestras, chamber ensembles, concerts, private events, and recording projects, while also teaching private and group violin lessons to students of different ages. These experiences have shown me that every student learns differently, and that a supportive teacher can make all the difference.

I believe music is about much more than playing the right notes. Learning an instrument develops discipline, creativity, confidence, and patience—skills that extend far beyond music itself. My goal is to help each student build a strong technical foundation while also discovering the joy of making music.

Whether you’re learning the violin for the first time or looking to continue your musical journey, I’d be happy to help you reach your goals in a positive and encouraging environment.

About the lesson

Whether you’re picking up the violin for the first time or returning after a break, my lessons are designed to help you build confidence while enjoying the learning process.

Each lesson is personalized to your goals, age, and experience level. We will work on healthy technique, posture, tone production, rhythm, intonation, sight-reading, ear training, and music theory while learning pieces that match your interests and abilities. My goal is to help students develop not only strong technical skills but also musical expression and confidence as performers.

A typical lesson includes a warm-up, technical exercises, work on repertoire, and practical tips to help you practice effectively between lessons. I believe consistent, focused practice is more important than long practice sessions, so I’ll provide strategies to help you make steady progress.

My lessons are suitable for children, teens, and adults at the beginner and intermediate levels. Whether you’re preparing for an audition, learning for fun, or looking to improve your skills, I’ll create a supportive environment where you can learn at your own pace and enjoy making music.
