About Duncan

In my Masters (Distinction, Oxford University) I studied both Greek and Latin language, literature, and textual criticism.
My Bachelor of Arts (Vice Chancellor's Scholar, First Class Honors, University Medal) is from the University of New England.
I am self-taught in literary French, Italian, and German, among other modern literary languages. I love reading, enjoy teaching, and value languages.

About the lesson

Hello there! My name - Duncan Girgis. I am an enthusiastic classicist who believes that reading fluency in Latin and Greek is achievable and immensely rewarding. Not only are they the gateway to a whole range of crucial linguistic skills, and some of the most widely spoken languages; they are also the key to some of the most beautiful and significant works of European literature. I believe that high-school Latin and/or Greek should be as enjoyable as possible, and am eager to help students sustain the naturally heavy load that these languages can be.

I have six years teaching experience in English, Writing, Literature and History as well as Latin, which I have taught for nearly three years. Private classes for upper primary, high-school, VCE and adult students are in 1 hour sessions, online or in person. So whether you're a VCE student fretting about upcoming exams, or an amateur eager to start from square one, I'm your man.

I wouldn't be surprised if Duncan was fluent in Latin; he's definitely as fluent as one can be. He is a kind, passionate, brilliant teacher who is constantly guilty of delighting, inspiring and enlightening his students. If a person is ever fortunate enough to become a student of Duncan's, that student will find themselves subject to constant improvement, encouragement and enjoyment in his classes. I couldn't overstate how brilliant and proficient Duncan is.
