About Matthew
I'm Matthew Sanger, a historian and anthropologist with a PhD from Columbia University and an undergraduate degree in Anthropology from Colorado College. I taught college-level history courses for five years and have 5 to 10 years of tutoring experience working with students at every level.
Beyond the classroom, I've worked at leading museums and history archives and have lectured and presented at conferences around the country. This combination of academic training, archival research experience, and classroom teaching gives me a deep, engaging command of American history and anthropology.
Students and parents value my clear explanations, patient approach, and genuine enthusiasm for the subject. I'm committed to helping each student build confidence, master the material, and achieve their goals — whether that's excelling on the AP U.S. History exam or succeeding in a college course.

I'm a PhD historian and anthropologist trained at Columbia University (with an undergraduate degree in Anthropology from Colorado College), and I specialize in AP U.S. History and U.S. History tutoring. I taught college-level history courses for five years and have 5 to 10 years of tutoring experience, so I know how to break complex topics into clear, manageable ideas.
My lessons are structured but flexible: we review key concepts, work through primary sources and practice questions, sharpen essay writing, and build strong exam strategies for the AP exam. Having worked at leading museums and history archives and lectured and presented at conferences around the country, I bring real-world historical expertise into every session.
Lessons are online and tailored to each student's goals, whether that means earning a top AP score, raising a course grade, or deepening an understanding of American history and anthropology. I'm available weekday evenings and weekends.
