About Raquel

Hi student! As you can see, my name is Raquel Ayala and I come from the Canary Islands. I am 21 years old and I am studying for a degree in Audiovisual Communication at the Polytechnic University of Valencia. I am currently in ERASMUS in Berlin for one semester and will go to South Korea the next one. As you can imagine, I am quite curious, I love learning about new cultures and languages and I am quite non-conformist and nonconformist. My history with English is, to say the least, curious. My parents raised me in a musical environment where we only listened to songs in English practically all day. Thanks to that I internalized the language without realizing it, and they never had to explain to me how to create sentences or conjugate verbs. It was a natural process and therefore I trust my methodology. It is not learning a language, it is making the language part of you.

About the lesson

For you to like learning a new language it is essential to start with things that you can apply in real life. Therefore, before starting with grammar, passives, ... we will sing songs that we will translate, we will see parts of movies or YouTube videos that you can understand from the context. Immersion can be more helpful than learning theory and then practising it. You can go to a language class with enthusiasm and have fun in the process. This methodology is very useful for children and young people, as they are growing up in an environment in which the media carry a lot of weight. Why not take advantage of it and get something good out of it? Of course, each student is different and each one of them will have their personalized class according to their needs. For example: if you want to improve your listening, this could be a class:

1. Listening to a song that the student loves:

Repeat what it says in some pieces
Translate verses
Answer questions about the song
Make a summary of its message

2. See a video of a YouTuber that the student likes:

Questions about its content
What caught their attention (accent, expressions)
What they did not understand and what they understood

3. Personalized listening narrated by me of an interesting topic for the student (video games, social networks, music, ...). This would be a more classical exercise to accustom the student to the methodology of the real exam.

The important thing about this methodology is that the student wants to go to class because he will know that he will be immersed in an environment of topics that he personally likes and will improve his English thanks to it.
