About Jiaying

I'm a native Mandarin speaker who grew up in Beijing, so I speak standard, accent-free Chinese. I've also spent two years living in London as an LSE student, which gave me firsthand experience of navigating a new culture and learning environment abroad.

What drives me as a tutor is connecting with people from all over the world through Mandarin. I'm actively learning English, Japanese and other languages myself, so I understand how challenging language barriers can feel. Teaching Mandarin isn't just about grammar and vocabulary to me. It's about helping you communicate confidently in real contexts, whether that's everyday life or the Chinese workplace. If you're interested in business Chinese, I can also share insights into Chinese work culture and professional communication styles, which often go hand-in-hand with language learning.

I want to help you feel genuinely confident speaking Mandarin and deepen your understanding of Chinese culture. Whether you're learning for personal growth, career opportunities in China, or simply to connect with the culture, I'm here to support that journey.

About the lesson

I'm a native Mandarin speaker from Beijing and an LSE Management graduate. I love helping people discover that Chinese isn't as intimidating as it seems. My lessons are relaxed, practical, and tailored to what you actually need, whether that's everyday conversation, business Chinese, or just getting comfortable with pronunciation.

I've tutored high school students in English and been a language partner for international friends at university, so I know how it feels to learn a new language. My approach is simple: lots of speaking practice, real-life scenarios, and enough cultural context to make it interesting. If you're learning Mandarin for work, particularly in finance, consulting, or tech, I can draw on my own experience to make lessons relevant to your professional goals. Lessons are typically 60 minutes, but we can adjust based on your pace. And if something's confusing, I can explain it in English so there's no pressure to figure everything out in Mandarin from day one :)
