About Dena
When I first started at my current school, I was the fourth teacher to come in to teach them. When they took their first state test, they didn’t do as well as they should have. When we took our test this spring, most of the students grew 18-26 points. I hope that at the end of the year they have learned enough to move on to the next grade with confidence that they can do just as well in second grade.

First grade teacher during school year so I try to add fun into the lesson to make the kids enjoy learning. I use videos during the school year to help make things stick. I also use read aloud stories for kids to help with comprehension. We do brain breaks if our lessons get a little too intense so it can help break things up and make learning fun.
First grade students are still learning how to sit still all day so breaks often are a must to keep them engaged in lessons and learning.
I treat all kids like my own and expect them to be serious when needed. I can be tough when needed especially when it means that a student is goofing off and not learning but still be fun and silly when needed.
