About Isaac
I grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana before moving to California at 18 to start my undergrad at Stanford University. After I graduated in 2020 with my B.A. in Psychology, I moved to Shenzhen, China for a year to teach ESL to kids and teens. After finishing my teaching contract, I returned to the states this year to start the MFA in Creative Writing program at Florida State University, where I also work as a writing tutor and am soon set to begin teaching freshman composition courses. Writing and storytelling have always been my greatest passions, and I enjoy getting to share those passions with students as they refine their ability to communicate effectively.

Lesson structure will very widely depending on the content being taught. For language teaching, the key component is scaffolding; I will introduce new concepts using rote methods before asking my students to apply those skills in activities that have gradually increasing levels of difficulty and agency. For writing and essay tutoring my structure is far more open and dependent on the student; I like to talk to students one-on-one in more of a conversational format in order to get at the heart of what it is they want to say and what the best way to say it might be.
