About Philip
I’m probably not what you picture when you think of a traditional English teacher — yes, I have pink hair — but I am completely focused on helping you succeed. I’ve been teaching for nearly ten years, and alongside the classroom I also love coaching rugby, which has shaped my belief in resilience, teamwork and steady progress. My sessions are calm, structured and purposeful, creating a space where you can feel comfortable being yourself while still being challenged to achieve your best. I focus on the practical strategies you need for exam success — from mastering exam technique to crafting thoughtful, analytical responses — while offering honest feedback and consistent support. High expectations, clear guidance and encouragement are at the heart of everything I do.

I specialise in English GCSE tuition for students aged 11–16, with experience supporting learners beyond GCSE where needed. My approach is calm, nurturing and carefully structured, creating a space where students feel safe to ask questions, take risks and build confidence. I focus strongly on exam success — breaking down mark schemes, refining exam technique and developing clear, analytical writing — while ensuring lessons are fully inclusive and supportive of students with SEN. Every session is tailored to the individual, combining academic rigour with patience and encouragement so that students not only improve their grades, but also grow in self-belief.
