About Abby
Hi there! Thanks for checking out my page :) My name is Abby -- I'm a current English Language Learning teacher in a boarding middle school in New England. I'm well versed in the intricacies of the English language, and also in the best and most respected evidence-based approaches to teaching the language. I make learning English fun, specifically centering lessons around my students' interests. I graduated from Smith College with degrees in Spanish and Anthropology -- I love talking about people and talking to people! In my free time, I love reading books, spending time with friends, and watching Formula 1.

When teaching writing, I take a collaborative approach in which the writer and I work together to grow a writer's general skills or a specific work of writing. When teaching college or secondary school application writing, we will do a lot of writing -- like A LOT! I'll teach about tools to use when specifically writing more narrative style pieces geared towards colleges and universities, and will work towards a healthy writing process. We can also work on supplemental writing pieces schools may require.
I'm well-versed in teaching about higher order concerns such as flow, organization, analysis, evidence collection and use, and thesis formation to students ranging from 5th grade to college level; I'm also well-versed in teaching about lower order concerns such as grammar, sentence structure, and mechanics.
Native English speaker, highly proficient in Spanish, and learning Portuguese and Mandarin Chinese.
