About Lawrence

Hi! I’m Lawrence, a Year 12 student at Melbourne High School with a strong passion for English and VCE. Having recently completed VCE English Mainstream, I understand firsthand the demands of the current study design, SACs and VCE exams.

My approach to tutoring is practical and student-focused. I aim to help students genuinely understand how to improve their writing, rather than simply giving them model answers to memorize. I focus on building strong analytical skills, developing clear and sophisticated arguments, and teaching students how to effectively analyze evidence under exam conditions.

As someone who has worked extensively with VCE-style texts, analytical writing and Argument Analysis, I can provide targeted feedback on essays and practice responses, identify exactly where marks are being lost, and help students develop strategies that they can apply independently.

Whether you are looking to build confidence, improve your SAC results or push towards the top range of VCE English, I’ll tailor lessons to your current level and goals. My aim is to make English more structured, manageable and rewarding—not a subject where you have to guess what assessors want.

About the lesson

My Approach to Tutoring

I take a structured, student-focused approach to VCE English, focusing on helping students develop the skills needed to write clear, sophisticated and exam-ready responses. Rather than simply providing model answers, I teach students how to identify what a question is asking, develop a strong contention, select and analyze evidence, and build a logical argument under timed conditions.

My lessons combine direct teaching with guided practice. I break down difficult concepts and texts into manageable components, demonstrate how to approach different question types, and then work through practice responses with students. I place particular emphasis on detailed feedback, including sentence-level analysis, use of evidence, argument structure, audience and purpose, and how to move a response from a lower range into the A/A+ range.

Lesson Structure and Length

Lessons typically run for 60–120 minutes, depending on the student's needs. A typical lesson may include reviewing previous work, teaching a specific skill or concept, analyzing examples, completing guided practice, and setting targeted work for the next lesson. Before SACs and exams, lessons can focus more heavily on timed writing, practice questions and detailed corrections.

Qualifications and Experience

I am a current Year 12 student at Melbourne High School completing VCE English 3/4, giving me recent and practical experience with the current VCE English study design, SACs and examinations. I have developed extensive experience analyzing texts, constructing arguments and completing analytical and argument analysis responses under VCE conditions.

As a current VCE student, I understand the expectations of the course from a student's perspective and can explain techniques in a practical and accessible way, rather than relying on overly complicated terminology.

Who My Lessons Are For

My lessons are primarily designed for Years 10–12 students studying English, particularly students completing VCE English Units 1–4. I can work with students across a range of abilities, from those looking to strengthen their fundamentals and confidence to high-achieving students aiming to push their SAC and exam responses into the A/A+ range.
