About Catrina
As a current instructor and current MFA master's student, I am constantly developing lessons and learning new ways to teach. One of the compliments I received as a college professor was my ability to teach a wide range of students and meet each student's individual needs. Although I do teach within a large setting, I thrive within a 1:1 instructional environment, as I can truly understand the specific problems a student is facing. Most of my students can attest that both my written and spoken feedback helped them elevate their writing to achieve the specific skill sets they were looking for.
My past work as a high school teacher and teaching assistant has also given me a ton of prior experience teaching within different contexts. I've also received straight A's throughout the entirety of my college career, even from my Oxford Professor, largely due to my writing ability.

Whether you are new to the English language, a high school student wanting extra help for AP exams, or a college student looking to elevate their writing, I am happy to assist and construct lessons that work for you!
My background in both English and Communication studies has forced me to navigate a wide range of essays from various approaches. My approach is first to root you with the fundamentals and then to expand your writing capabilities and take them to the next level. Lessons usually start by breaking down the elements of a paragraph and an essay, and then branch out to a more tutorial Oxford style of teaching, often exploring larger questions and navigating how to answer them.
As someone who grew up with dyslexia, I believe that there is no one way to be taught. I tend to look at pedagogy and learning in a non-conventional way that focuses more on passion and reading rather than strict syntactical or grammatical conventions.
