I’m a Deaf ASL tutor with years of experience teaching students of all levels. My lessons focus on clear communication, real-life conversation skills, and a strong understanding of Deaf culture. American Sign Language – General Lesson Plan 1. Introduction & Goals (5 minutes) • Quick warm-up and review of previous material. • Discuss student goals (fluency, vocabulary, grammar, Deaf culture, conversational skills). 2. Core Vocabulary & Concepts (10–15 minutes) • Introduce themed vocabulary (family, emotions, daily routines, school/work, etc.). • Practice handshape, movement, orientation, and facial expressions (NMS). • Build short phrases using new signs. 3. Grammar & Structure Practice (10–15 minutes) • Teach ASL structure (Topic–Comment, WH-questions, yes/no questions). • Practice classifiers, role shifting, and spatial mapping. • Short guided dialogues. 4. Conversational Application (10–15 minutes) • Real-life scenarios (introductions, ordering food, scheduling, etc.). • Mini conversations with voice-off practice. • Real-time feedback and correction. 5. Deaf Culture Integration (5 minutes) • Teach cultural norms, etiquette, and community values. • Share authentic ASL resources or brief cultural notes. 6. Review & Independent Practice (5 minutes) • Recap vocabulary and grammar. • Give light practice assignments (videos, flashcards, prompts). • Set goals for the next session.
