About VALORE
I have been working in the field of education since 2006 with students from grades 2 to 8. During these years, I have designed instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners and overseen the development and execution of appropriate instructional and social-emotional learning goals, teaching strategies, and assessments.

Beyond the ability to decode text and read fluently is the ability to comprehend text. To deeply understand both the literal and implied meanings in a text, one must be an active reader. Through a sequence of lessons, demonstrations, and practice, my students will develop and employ active reading skills and summarization routines.
Active Reading Techniques
I teach students how to :
1. Annotate texts by identifying and highlighting key ideas
2. Question text while reading to engage with the text and make deep connections
3. Use graphic organizers tools like Venn diagrams, story maps, and concept webs to visually organize information and ideas from their readings, especially when it comes to responding to text
Summarization Techniques
Practice summarizing paragraphs, sections, and entire texts to ensure students grasp the main ideas and supporting details using one or more strategies:
1. The Five Ws and H Strategy
2. The Somebody-Wanted-But-So (SWBS) Strategy
3. Main Idea and Supporting Details
