About Dimitra

I am a student of English and Art in Education for secondary schools at the University of Cologne, Germany. From September '19 to May '20 I am working as a German teaching assistant at a Manchester school.

In Germany I have been working in a tutor school for over 5 years, where I teach English, German and Spanish to pupils between the age of 8 and 19. Besides that, I currently teach German to an American woman in Cologne. I also did three internships at secondary schools for a 5 to 7 week duration each. During my internships, I participated in English, Spanish and Art lesson classes. As part of the lessons I often helped pupils with understanding and performing exercises. I was also given the chance to prepare and teach several lessons on my own under the supervision of a teacher. My internships covered the acquisition of various teaching techniques, classroom management, the process and challenges of pupil assessment and the preparation of teaching units.

About the lesson

During my teaching experience I observed that the pupils' achievements are predominantly a reflection of the teacher's professional attitude. Therefore, patience and understanding is very important to me to help my pupils improve their language skills. I am motivated to teach people of a wide age range and I am very experienced in the preparation of teaching materials and techniques to create a varied learning atmosphere.
It is also important to me not to put too much pressure on the pupils as their progress often takes more time than expected or wished for. I aim to make the lessons fun for the pupils and at the same time to meet their individual learning needs.

Details

Depending on how far the student lives away from me, the travel costs vary and can be negotiated individually. Also, when a pupil cancels within 24 hours before a class without an acceptable reason (an acceptable reason would be sickness or an accident) or simply does not show up without any notice in advance, the full hour must be paid.
