About Rebecca
I have spent over eight years helping students explore the exciting world of violin playing and modern music production. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Orchestral Studies and have served as a violin section leader in various ensembles. My true passion lies in teaching modern genres like jazz violin, rock strings, and indie folk.
In my studio, we regularly use helpful technology like slow down apps, digital audio workstations, MIDI notation, and video feedback. These tools help you analyze your posture and easily refine your playing during practice. I specialize in helping musicians record their own violin parts for original songs or creative cover videos.
I also create custom backing tracks to make your practice sessions feel like you are playing with a real live band. For instance, I recently helped an intermediate student who wanted to record an indie folk cover for their social media page. We used video feedback to fix their bow angle and used a slow down app to master a tricky, fast solo.
They successfully recorded a clean, beautiful violin track that they were incredibly proud to share online. I believe that learning the violin today should be highly practical, creative, and connected to modern music making. My teaching methodology focuses on fostering creative freedom and spontaneous musical expression on the violin. We will explore exciting subjects like improvisation in non-classical styles including jazz, folk, and world music. You will learn how to build your own beautiful melodies over chord changes and develop a truly unique improvisational voice.
This creative approach works wonderfully for vocalists who perform in church settings and theater players who want to add dramatic flair to their shows. I love pushing my students to trust their own musical intuition instead of always relying on written sheet music. For example, I recently worked with a church singer who was terrified of playing a solo during a live service.
We practiced playing simple three note patterns over a basic background track, and they quickly learned to play by feel. Within a few weeks, they were creating soulful, improvised lines entirely on their own during services. I am completely committed to supporting you at every single step to ensure you excel on your instrument.
We will work together to unlock your inner jazz or folk fiddler and make the violin feel like a natural extension of your voice. We will break down complex scales into friendly, bite-sized patterns that make perfect sense on the fingerboard. This step by step practice helps you transition from overthinking the technical rules to feeling the music in your body.
