About Amira

Hello, I’m Amira, a dental student at the University of Birmingham with a strong passion for helping applicants secure dentistry interview offers. Having received 4/4 offers myself, I understand the dentistry interview styles and what admissions tutors are truly looking for to help candidates stand out and ultimately receive their offers.
I successfully gained offers from Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, and Queen Mary University of London. Academically, I achieved nine Grade 9s at GCSE, A*A*A at A-level, and scored over 3100 in the UCAT, placing me in the top national percentile.
I have experience teaching and mentoring a wide range of students, allowing me to adapt my teaching style to suit each individual’s strengths and areas for improvement. My approach is supportive, structured, and results-driven, with a strong focus on building confidence and delivering clear interview strategies to students.

Through tutoring a wide range of students, I have developed highly effective and personalised interview preparation sessions tailored to each individual’s strengths, needs, and goals. My approach ensures that every lesson is carefully structured while remaining flexible, allowing us to focus on the areas that will make the biggest difference to interview performance.
Lessons focus on building confidence and strong communication skills, helping students to deliver clear, structured, interview-ready answers. I work closely with students to identify areas for improvement, whilst also incorporating their personal requests.
Sessions cover essential interview skills including work experience reflection, personal qualities, data interpretation, role-play scenarios, and logical reasoning questions. I also have a wide range of university-specific mock interviews available, which we can work through together under realistic interview conditions.
Throughout the process, I provide detailed, constructive feedback and practical strategies to help students refine their answers and improve their interview technique. This guidance ensures they approach interviews with confidence and deliver thoughtful responses that stand out to admissions tutors.

  • 1) When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

As a dental student, I am very aware of how challenging and competitive the process of
getting into dental school can be. This has made me passionate about supporting other
students in achieving their dream university offers. I initially helped family friends prepare for
medicine and dentistry interviews, and witnessing the significant improvement that 1-to-1
tutoring had on the quality of their answers inspired me to expand further. This led me to
branch out to Superprof, where I hope to support a wider range of students and make a
meaningful difference in their academic and university application journeys.
Science has always been the subject I enjoyed most throughout primary and secondary
school and choosing science-based A-levels further confirmed that this was the area I
wanted to pursue in the future! And my interest in private tutoring began when I started
helping my younger cousins with GCSE Maths and Science. I found the experience
incredibly rewarding, particularly breaking down complex topics into clear, manageable
sections that were easier to understand. Seeing their confidence and understanding improve
motivated me to continue developing this skill.
  • 2) Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I primarily teach dental school admissions and interview preparation, offering realistic 1-1,
university-specific mock interviews. In addition to this, I also tutor GCSE Maths, Biology and
Chemistry. For dentistry interview sessions, I focus on building students’ confidence and
communication skills, helping them deliver clear, structured, and interview-ready answers. I
work closely with each student to identify areas for improvement while also tailoring sessions
to their individual goals and requests. Topics commonly covered include reflecting effectively
on work experience, discussing personal qualities, data interpretation, role-play scenarios,
    and logical reasoning questions.
Throughout the process, I provide detailed, constructive feedback alongside practical
strategies to help students refine their responses and improve their overall interview
technique. Having gone through the dental school application process myself, I understand
how challenging it can be to perfect answers under interview conditions, which is why I place
strong emphasis on making sure students feel fully prepared and confident on the day.
  • 3) Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

I think my biggest role model has to be my older sister. She also successfully got into
dentistry and was one of my strongest supporters throughout the process. Seeing her
achieve her goals gave me both the confidence and motivation to do the same, and her
guidance has continued to inspire me in my own journey :)
  • 4) What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

I believe a good tutor needs a combination of knowledge surrounding the subject and
effective communication in order to break down complex topics into simple, understandable
concepts and to adapt explanations based on each student’s learning style. Patience and
approachability are also key qualities in order to help students feel comfortable and
supported. A good tutor should be able to build confidence as well as academic ability,
especially in high-pressure areas such as university interviews. Finally, enthusiasm and
genuine commitment to a student’s success help create a motivating learning environment
and make tutoring both effective and rewarding. As a tutor, I strive to embody all of these
qualities to best support my students in achieving their goals!
  • 5) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

During my own dental school application process, one of the biggest challenges I faced was
balancing A-level studies alongside intense interview preparation. Over the Christmas
holidays in particular, I found myself prioritising interview practice, which led to my mock
exam grades being lower than my predicted grades. Although mocks do not directly affect
university offers, it was a valuable learning experience that highlighted the importance of
    balance during the application process.
Through this, I learned that while interview preparation is crucial, maintaining consistent
A-level revision is equally important. Dental interviews are highly competitive and vary
significantly between universities, meaning focused and tailored preparation is essential.
However, allowing academic performance to drop can add unnecessary stress at an already
    demanding time.
As a result, I now strongly encourage students to create a realistic timetable that
incorporates both A-level and interview preparation. Planning ahead ensures that neither is
neglected, and as interviews approach, revision can be adjusted to reflect changing
priorities. The application journey is long and challenging, but with perseverance, structure,
and balance, it becomes far more manageable and ultimately very rewarding!
  • 6) What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or are still facing in your subject?

At the start of my dental interview preparation, I initially struggled with role-play scenarios
and trying to come across as genuine. It was challenging to balance giving structured
answers while still sounding natural and authentic. What really helped me was fully
imagining myself in the situation, thinking through how I would respond in real life. This
approach made my answers more practical and convincing, and it’s a strategy I now
recommend to students facing similar challenges.
  • 7) Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

I’d say my favourite aspect of teaching is seeing students make real progress, especially
when they take on feedback and improve answers in areas they previously found
challenging. It’s incredibly rewarding to witness that growth in real time and to know that I’ve
helped them build confidence and skills that will benefit them long-term!
Outside of dental school, I really enjoy running, going to the gym, swimming, and coffee
catch ups with friends (yes, you can have a life outside of dentistry!).
  • 8) What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions ?

What makes me a Superprof is my experience as a tutor and my proven track record of
helping students secure offers from their dream dental schools. Most importantly, I genuinely
care about my students’ success and love seeing them grow in confidence, improve
academically, and achieve their goals. Making a positive and lasting impact on a student’s
life is something I truly value and find incredibly rewarding as a tutor.
