About Raquel

HiHi, I’m Raki, a cultural researcher and food curator, and founder of La Culpa es del Coulant, a platform exploring African and Afro-diasporic food and culture through research, storytelling and cultural projects.
I have formal training in Culinary and Restaurant Management and nearly 10 years of experience in the hospitality industry. My background in food is an important part of my practice, and I use cooking as a way to explore and share the stories, traditions and cultural context behind different dishes and ingredients.
In my classes, I don’t just teach you how to prepare a dish. We cook together while learning about the ingredients, techniques and cultural traditions connected to the food. Whether you're a beginner or a confident home cook, the aim is to create an engaging and accessible space to learn through both food and culture.
Classes can be taught in English or Spanish, and I look forward to cooking and sharing these stories with you.

About the lesson

My approach to teaching combines hands-on cooking with cultural storytelling. I guide students step by step through each dish while introducing the ingredients, culinary traditions and cultural context connected to what we are preparing.
Classes are interactive and can be taught in English or Spanish. Each session typically lasts between 1.5 and 2 hours, depending on the dish and the student's pace. We begin by exploring the ingredients and their cultural significance, followed by hands-on cooking, with plenty of space for questions and conversation throughout.
Classes can explore African and Afro-diasporic food cultures and are suitable for different levels, from beginners to home cooks and anyone interested in discovering food through both cooking and culture.
