Originally from Munich, Germany, I started drumming in the year 2000. During my teenage years, I played in several original and cover bands, covering styles such as rock, pop, funk, and metal. In 2008, I spent two weeks in New York at the Drummers Collective. However, aside from music, I also have always had a big interest in science and the environment. Therefore, while staying an active member of the Munich music scene, I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Engineering from the University of Technology Munich.
After graduating in 2012, I went back to New York and the Drummers Collective to pursue music. For the next two and a half years, I expanded my playing abilities in many styles. First and foremost, Jazz and any kind of improvised music, including Afro-Cuban, Brazilian, Caribbean and other modern styles of drumming. While being an active member of the local music scene (for example, my playing can be heard on Carolann Brevard’s album “Greatness”), I had the opportunity to learn from masters such as Peter Retzlaff, Jason Gianni, Marko Djordjevic, Ian Froman, Vince Cherico, Nate Radley, Sean Conly, and Frank Gravis.
Shortly upon graduating in 2014, I commenced my studies at the California Institute of the Arts in Los Angeles. There, I got to study with such greats as Joe La Barbera and Alphonso Johnson, as well as Darek Oles, David Roitstein, Larry Koonse, Joey de León, Randy Gloss, and Vinnie Golia. After my graduation from CalArts with a Master of Fine Arts degree in 2017, I continued to be an active member of the LA music scene with a passion for both playing and teaching, as well as composing my own original material.
Currently I am working as a professional musician in Germany (mostly in the Munich area), playing live, recording in studios, and enjoying sharing my knowledge with my students.
My capabilities on the drum set and on percussion instruments are not limited to certain styles, but span a big variety of genres, including: Funk, Jazz, Rock, Metal, Pop, R’n’B, Soul, Reggae, Afro-Cuban, Brazilian, other Caribbean and Latin styles, etc. I have performed and recorded with bands in venues across Europe and the U.S. I also have extended experience in teaching. Both in my playing and teaching, I emphasize the importance of being versatile and studying different styles and techniques.

I am a dedicated teacher who plans his lessons individually for each student, based on their current level, needs, and interests. My emphasis is on making practicing fun while keeping the lessons challenging. The content of my lessons includes technique (efficiency of movement, injury prevention), creativity (cultivating one’s own ideas, grooves, fills), as well as developing independence (coordination) and soloing. I am proficient in many styles of music, including Funk, Jazz, Rock, Metal, Pop, R’n’B, Soul, Reggae, Afro-Cuban, Brazilian, other Caribbean and Latin styles, and others. I have a Master of Fine Arts degree from California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) in Los Angeles, as well as a Diploma from my 2 years of study at the Drummers Collective in New York City. I have been a drummer for 17 years, playing in several original and cover bands of various styles in New York City and in Germany. I am currently an active musician, playing live, recording in the studio and sharing my knowledge with students of all ages and levels.

Deadly! Den Schlagzeugunterricht bei Michael kann ich absolut weiterempfehlen. Mit seiner sympathischen Art weckt er den Spaß am Instrument und gibt viele Anregungen mit gut umsetzbaren Übungen. Michael schneidet den Unterricht genau auf meine Wünsche zu und ich schätze seine Passion für das Unterrichten!
