About Yvette
Hello, my name is Yvette. I'm a dual French-American citizen who was raised between France and the US and who absolutely loves helping people learn French. I love nothing more than sitting and answering questions about my language and culture. I attended Brandeis University as an undergraduate where I double majored in French and Politics, graduating summa cum laude with highest honors. While an undergraduate I tutored my peers in the language and gained a variety tools to help explain and simplify French grammar and cultural concepts. While I will not be studying French for my masters, I will be starting graduate studies at the University of Cambridge in the fall.

As a native speaker of French with a deep understanding of both American and French culture, I bring a unique perspective to my lessons.
My approach to teaching aims to make what is objectively a difficult language to learn as accessible as possible. No matter where you are in your studies, I have a heavy focus on phonetics, which often means starting/back pedaling to focus on the nitty gritty of how your mouth should physically be shaped to produce the right sounds. With that basis you are improving your accent with every new word, phrase and conjugation you learn.
I also have a strong focus on how language and culture intertwine in France. You can learn so much about a people from how they speak, their idioms, expressions and slang. I make a point to include at least one cultural lesson/note alongside each lesson. I also insist on speaking practice in each lesson, no matter your level! Producing is by far the hardest and most uncomfortable part of language learning but it is also an incredible accelerator for your brain to begin interacting with the world in a new way.
I teach at all levels and have lessons plans for French 1, French 2, French 3 and conversational French. I am not specifically prepared to teach AP French as I have not studied recent exam materials but would be happy to do so to assist any student preparing for this year's AP French exam.
I hold a Bachelor of Arts in French and Francophone Studies from Brandeis University and plan to start a Masters degree in the fall in Sociology at Cambridge University in the UK this fall.
