About Grace
Languages are my passion, and I wish to share my knowledge with others. I am a student at the University of Durham, currently reading Chinese Studies. I have A*s in both GCSE and A-level Spanish, and also in iGCSE and Pre-U Mandarin. I have had 1 student before, tutoring them beginner Spanish before the student entered in GCSEs. I have lived abroad in Asia (Hong-Kong, Singapore) and so have first-hand experience of culture and immersion in the native language.

I am an interactive teacher, and will cater my lessons to the needs of each student. I will firstly gauge my students ability, in order to know their strengths and areas for improvement. I will then work through the syllabus in a fun and engaging way, ensuring that my student is comfortable with handling material both within the syllabus, but also within other areas of interest. Depending on the language, I will tend to split the teaching into two parts: teaching grammar and vocabulary. After that, I will work on applying these together to help my student in effectively translating (both ways) passages, and also help them to be able to hold conversations based on a broad variety of topics. For Mandarin, teaching my student to write, including the formation of characters, stroke order etc. would also be a big part of the lesson if the student wishes to be able to write in 汉字。I wish for my students to be confident in their language ability in order to be able to apply their skills later on, not solely to pass an exam. By the end of my teaching, I hope that my students will be able to express complex ideas and coherent arguments with ease, whether that be through speaking, writing, or understanding passages.
