About Jamie
As a graduate psychology student from Durham University with a lifelong love for English literature, I can offer a range of valuable viewpoints, handy tips, references and contextual information that are sure to be useful for any developing student wishing to enhance their knowledge of English literature and Language inside and outside of the classroom. I can help with a very wide range of topics having critically examined, written and evaluated many poems ranging from Shakespearian to first world war to contemporary poetry. This has given me a strong grasp on identifying important themes and key structural details that will doubtlessly be useful to any student who wishes to improve their fluency in English literature or Language. I can be of especially useful help to anyone studying pre-20th century texts as I have a great deal of experience in analysing older literature having chosen myself to compare Robinson Crusoe (1719) to Treasure Island (1883). I am quite comfortable at identifying themes and subtleties within these older texts and have a fairly wide depth of contextual knowledge that I hope will prove valuable to any student studying similar texts. Students who choose me as their tutor can be confident in asking me many questions about texts and themes from all ages as my experience as an avid life-long reader and passion to encourage the best methods of critical thinking will no doubt help them achieve the best results possible. I also have a background in Teaching English as a Foreign Language and am open to tutoring for all levels of knowledge.

My lessons are tailored to students looking for English lessons at all levels. Once my students' needs and key learning points are identified, I can tailor the course content to be student-specific and provide a detailed course outline to be shared and agreed upon. Examples of typical lesson content (all lessons 1/hour but if requested can be modified to fit your needs) Each lesson type will have an introductory stage where we discuss the types of content you want to cover and help discover where you need assistance the most to develop a plan that covers your weaknesses whilst developing overall English skillsets.
English Literature - Literature Review (chapter-by-chapter available) Literature Analysis, Key theme analysis, How to answer Questions and key Question reference, Constructing an essay question response and General advice and assistance or requested topics.
English Language - Grammar Usage and Vocabulary, Creative Writing Task and Assessment, How to structure Creative Writing, Development of General Language Skills, Writing Comparison, Essay writing and structure and How to write based off of prompts.
English Foreign Language - General assessment, Topic Corresponding to Student Needs, Review of Language types, Grammar and Vocabulary for Foreign Speaking Students, Proper Sentence Structure, Conversational Practice (available for all levels of knowledge) and Vocabulary enhancement and correct use. Lessons are available to be taught for all ages. 3 years tutoring experience and provision of additional course materials can be organised if requested.
