About Alexandre

I take tutoring seriously and always aim to provide well-prepared, structured lessons. Before starting with a new student, I like to understand their goals, current level and the areas they find most challenging. This allows me to prepare lessons that are targeted and useful rather than generic.

I believe progress comes from clarity and regular practice, so I focus on explaining concepts in a simple and logical way while giving students plenty of opportunities to apply what they learn during the lesson. I also encourage students to ask questions and to actively participate so that lessons remain engaging and productive. I prefer working in person rather than online (I currently have a DBS check).

My objective is to create a positive learning environment where students feel supported and motivated to improve. I always try to adapt my pace and teaching style to each learner, ensuring that lessons remain both effective and enjoyable.

About the lesson

My approach to tutoring is based on making French clear, structured and enjoyable to learn. As a native French speaker studying at Durham University, I understand both the French language itself and the difficulties English-speaking students often face when learning it. My goal is not only to help students improve their grades, but also to build confidence so that they feel comfortable using French in real situations.

Lessons are adapted to the student’s level and objectives. For students preparing for GCSE or A-Level French, I focus on key exam skills such as oral expression, listening comprehension, grammar accuracy and essay structure. I often combine short explanations with practical exercises, conversation practice and exam-style questions so that students actively use what they learn during the lesson.

A typical lesson lasts around one hour. During the session we usually start with a quick review of previous material, followed by targeted work on the student’s current difficulties. This might include grammar explanations, vocabulary building, speaking practice or preparation for specific exam tasks. I try to keep lessons interactive and relaxed so that students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes, which is an essential part of learning a language.

I mentor at Durham Sixth Form Centre, where I support pupils with speaking practice and general understanding of the language. My lessons are suitable for secondary school students, particularly those preparing for A-Level exams, but I am also happy to help beginners or anyone who would like to improve their conversational French.
